The 14th Annual Mike Lyons Memorial Palaka Awards Celebration and Golf Ball Drop

The Rotary Club of Kahului presents the Mike H. Lyons II Memorial Scholarship Fund 2019 Palaka Awards Celebration and Golf Ball Drop!

Mike Lyons, for whom the fund and the Palaka Award are named, was the epitome of a Rotarian and a prominent figure in the Maui community. He served as President of the Rotary Club of Kahului and as Governor of Rotary District 5000. Mike passed away on March 26, 2004, but his legacy will impact our community for generations to come, thanks in part to your support of our Scholarship Program.

Created in honor of Mike Lyons’ tireless community support, the Rotary Club of Kahului’s annual Palaka Award distinguishes outstanding long-term volunteer service to nonprofit organizations on Maui. Named for the signature palaka shirts Mike wore, the award is Maui’s highest service recognition and pays tribute to community members who demonstrate their commitment to helping others by volunteering their time, talent and treasure to create positive change and stronger communities on Maui.

This year, we are thrilled to be honoring Goodfellow Brothers for their philanthropy service to our community.  We are also excited to be honoring Mercer K. “Chubby” Vicens for his tremendous and tireless community service!   We are also enthralled to be honoring Larry Laird for his extended contributions to the Youth and Rotary Clubs of Maui!

Net proceeds directly fund the Rotary Club of Kahului’s Michael H. Lyons II Scholarship Program, providing college scholarships for exceptional Maui youth. We invite you to invest in Maui’s future generation of community and business leaders by joining us and supporting this event. Many of our scholarship winners intend to return to Maui, educated and experienced in the fields of health care, education, business, agriculture, and more.

Come celebrate Maui’s top Community Contributors as we recognize Goodfellows, Chubby, and Larry at our Palaka Awards Celebration with cocktails and pupus, entertainment by George Kahumoku, and witness the spectacle of our Helicopter Golf Ball Drop on:
